Freddie Gray lived in the poor Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood of Baltimore. He suffered from lead poisoning like many poor children. As little as 5 micrograms of lead per decilitre of blood can stunt the mental development of a child and cause ADHD, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. When Freddie was 22 months old his blood carried 37 micrograms. It is a demonstrated fact that high levels of environmental toxins are associated with poverty. Poor Freddie, dead at the age of 25, he never had a chance.
