Hopefully, disingenuous partisan calls for "unity" will give way to accountability and rule of law in the new Congress. Senate supporters of the late, ersatz dictator will get their chance to express themselves when they vote on his guilt. Senator Sanders, now chairman of the Senate Budget Committee has asked that Biden's rescue legislation be put to a vote through the budget reconciliation process, which requires only a simple majority. US Person supports this process, although he would prefer the Senate eliminate or heavily modify the current filibuster rule, such as reinstating the "previous question" motion present in its original rule book. The reconciliation method will allow the administration to avoid the obstructionist "little group of willful men" and allow a handful of moderate Repugnants to support Biden's progressive legislation.*
*Given the dire state of the nation there is no time to waste searching for bipartisanship that is not there. How can the Senate credibly call itself the "world's greatest deliberative body" when a single Senator can object to a bill coming to the floor for a vote using an informal process called a "legislative hold". Serious attention needs to be paid to reforming Senate processes if this nation is to have an effective federal government. Rule by executive fiat is an unsatisfactory substitute for legislative action.
