Right wingnuts licked their propaganda chops when the Left came up with the ambiguous slogan, "Defund the Police". They have been preaching anarchy and doom ever since Mr. Floyd was murdered. The facts are that policing in 'Merica is NOT serving and protecting the citizens, but is often violent, brutal, and oppressive. Yet despite a decline in violent crime, municipalities are straining under the burden of exploding police budgets ignited by personnel and pension costs. This chart summarizes the situation:

US Person does not think that idea is viable given current social conditions, which seem conducive to violent criminals. But the
maligned slogan also
includes the ideas of cutting some types of police funding and dedicating that money to other urgent social needs like mental health services and low cost housing. Here is another chart to look at.
